Bye-Bye Frou Frou, Hello Sophistication

Digital Image

Digital Image “Ribbons and Bows” patterns were popular in the ’90’s, but two decades later the look is tired and way too frou-frou. The homeowners live in Tanglewood and have a very traditional-with-a-touch-of-elegance décor.

The new wallpaper for their powder room has a dark brown background with a muddy aqua fleur-de-lis medallion. It’s much prettier than my photograph lets on.

Under the stairs, this powder room was configured oddly, and had three separate ceiling areas. Originally, two of these were wallpapered. I talked the homeowners out of putting the dark paper on the ceiling, because it crunches the ceiling down and makes the room claustrophobic. Instead, I prepped the overhead spaces for paint, and they will have a someone apply a color derived from the wallpaper – a lighter version of the muddy aqua in the medallion. That will tie the walls and ceiling together, and make the overall look very sophisticated.
