“Popcorn” Texture on Ceiling – a.k.a “Cottage Cheese”

Ugh …. What were they thinking when they invented this?? If left unpainted, it absorbs sound a little – but that’s about all the good I have to say about it. It’s ugly, dated, and prevents straight cuts where the wallpaper meets the ceiling, and it snags and tears the skin on my fingers.

And it’s really hard to get off, not to mention makes a huge mess. The shows on HGTV are always poking fun at this stuff, then getting out the stiff putty knives and a lot of elbow grease to scape it off the ceiling. And God help you if you have it on the walls, too!
