Why Is There a Toothbrush In My Tool Box?

See all those dusty splinters piling up on the paper? (In the second photo, they are harder to see, but they are there.) It’s not uncommon to unwrap a new roll of wallpaper and find that the edges are not sharp and clean; they often have debris left from the manufacturing and trimming process. These minute bits of paper are tiny, but they can be just enough interference to prevent seams from closing tightly.

If the paper is already unrolled, I sand them off with a sanding block. But that is awkward, time-consuming, and often incomplete. This trick is better – to scrub the ends of unrolled rolls of wallpaper with a toothbrush.
