The January 2019 issue of Better Homes & Gardens has a feature on “scallops” in design.

Here you see wallpaper (Burke Decor), bedding, and pillows with the perky and popular motif.

Dramatic Update for College Age Girl’s Room

December 24, 2020

The furniture, bedding, artwork, wall paint, in this bedroom of a college-aged girl are all pretty neutral. The mother wanted bolden things up with a dramatic accent wall behind the headboard. This would be a surprise when the gal came home from school for the holiday.

One wallpaper choice was the Phillip Jeffries “Wish” wallpaper. Well, anything with that designer’s name is going to be really expensive. Plus the cost of smoothing the wall and hanging the paper.

Dorota Hartwig of DMH Designs (dmhdesigns44@gmail.com) found this – very similar pattern, but much more affordable price. It is by Wallquest, one of my favorite brands, and is called Dandellions.

In one photo, you see the paper rolled out so I can see the full-size pattern and determine how I want it placed on the wall, behind where the headboard will go.

In the last photo, you see a scrap of dark chalk which I used to color the white edges of the wallpaper, to prevent them from peeking through at the seams.

The home is in the West University neighborhood of Houston.

A Great Pattern Choice for All Walls In a Bedroom

July 27, 2018

I didn’t hang this wallpaper, but I couldn’t resist taking a picture when I saw it in a guest bedroom of one of my clients here in Houston.

If you want a sweet looking room, this is a perfect choice.

The two-hue color scheme is relaxing, and the overall viney pattern is easy to look at and live with. It has an “English country garden” feel to it.

It’s the perfect pattern to use on all four walls of a bedroom.

Note: Once the homeowners get fully moved into their new home, they will outfit the room with more appropriate bedding, and add a little furniture and artwork to this room.

Coincidence of the Day

August 12, 2012

My favorite drapery (and other home sewing needs) gal, Susan Kostelecky, was reading my blog the other day. She e-mailed me with her own “Small World” coincidence…

I blogged about running into the lady painter, Gregory, down the street from a friend’s house here in Montrose. Well, it turns out that Susan knows Gregory – Gregory has painted Susan’s house, and many others in the neighborhood of Garden Oaks.

Small world!

Incidentally, if you are looking for custom made drapes, bedding, or other fabric projects around the home, please do contact Susan. She told me about some recent projects in really expensive homes that were major cool, and she was quite proud of the outcome. But I want to let you all know that she does beautiful work at reasonable prices for us REGULAR FOLK, too!

I can also connect you with Gregory, if you are looking for a good painter.
