I’m always thrilled to see wallpaper featured in magazines – especially magazines that historically promote sparse , all-white interiors and décor . This February / March 2023 issue showcases a LOT of wallpaper – including right her on the front cover ! The magazine didn’t list much, if any, info about the patterns or brands. So please just enjoy the patterns and decorating elements. If you want to pursue one of these, I can hook you up with a merchant who can probably find it for you, or something similar. Wheat wreaths on wheat wallpaper .Subtle stripes in a sleeping area . Note how nicely the installer centered / balanced the stripes on the headboard / focal wall . An earthy, natural pattern I hung not too long ago, and also have it coming up again. Looks like dandelion seedheads, maybe. Fun upward movement.Many ” Farmhouse ” styled homes these days are using tile that looks like this. But this backdrop is actually wallpaper . Showing how you can get the visual impact of patterned tile without the expense or permanent impact on your wall . Cute idea for the backs of narrow shelves . This is a clever look on stairs , too – I’d say mostly in ” artsy ” themed homes . This wall is actually made of ship-lap . But there are many wallpaper patterns out there that mimic the look of this popular decorating material . Particularly the Magnolia Home line by Joanna Gaines , made by York .More wallpaper masquerading as tile on this bar backsplash . Bright colorful butterflies . Same color scheme , different wallpaper pattern . Cheery lemon pattern . This young couple in the Garden Oaks neighborhood of Houston has a beautifully updated and furnished 1940 ranch style home. But they wanted to up the volume, so to speak, and thought that this hallway, which slices through the center of the home, would make a fine focal point.
I’ve hung this classic damask pattern twice before, and was carrying around a sample of it when I visited them for an initial consultation. They liked it immediately, and, after considering several other patterns, decided on the damask.
To make the area really special, they added a chair rail and crown molding.
It’s hard to get a good shot of a long, narrow hallway. But you can see how the color and pattern adds warmth and dimension to the space, and the lightly pearlized shimmer of the paper definitely adds a touch of understated glamor.
Since the chair rail was a main feature of the room, I positioned the pattern so that the bottom of the damask motif landed just above the chair rail. Likewise, the top of the motif sits just below the crown molding. This looks a lot better than having part of the design chopped off in mid-motif.

In fact, the couple is going to meet with Dorota tomorrow, to choose a complimentary paint color for the bottom portion of the walls.
This is a master bathroom in Bellaire that had just been completely renovated. The homeowner wanted a serene spa look. When I first consulted with her, she was pretty set on a very plain, cream colored paper that almost matched the countertops and floor. I told her I thought it was too inert. I suggested something with a soft pattern, to fill the space on her 10.5′ high walls. And I told her that a little stronger color would add definition by standing out just a little, against the tile and woodwork.
I also mentioned that it’s more interesting to use different – but complimentary – patterns in the main room and the potty room.
She considered my points, went to my suggested source for wallpaper, and came home with this. BINGO! What a wonderful choice!
The palm leaves are soft and earthy, lending to the spa feel, and are the perfect scale to fill the high walls. The color goes nicely with the stone in the room, and it stands out just enough to give the room definition. The companion bamboo pattern went in the toilet room. In the last photo, you can just barely see how the two patterns work together.
Both these papers are by Anderson Prints, by EcoChic, and were a positive delight to work with. And they are paper, not vinyl, so the homeowners do not need to worry about humidity causing the seams to curl.
