Etched Forest Mural in a Baby Girl’s Room

January 4, 2018

Wallpaper - Mural - Etched Forest Close Up

No pink dollies for this baby girl (still a few months away!). This foresty mural is far more interesting. The “etched” appearance of the design brings to mind an old-world lithograph, and adds depth to the image. The green and gold colors are muted, and coordinate with the mom’s planned color scheme of grey, taupe, and dusty rose.

The first photo shows laying the mural out on the floor, to be sure the panels match, and to be sure they are in the right sequence. This also allows me to check dimensions of the mural against those of the wall, and to plot placement of the design.

This mural is from Europe. It came in 8 panels, and was custom-sized to fit the wall. It was a non-woven material, and was installed via the paste-the-wall method. This particular material was stiff and felt even brittle. I wasn’t thrilled working with it, but once it was up on the wall, it will be fine.

I hung this in a baby girl’s nursery in a home in West University (Houston). The manufacturer is Rebel Walls.

Like animals? Like the forest? Like a little whimsy? Then this wallpaper pattern is for you!

I hung this in a children’s bathroom in a very nicely remodeled 1939 brick cottage in Montrose (inner Houston). The bottom 1/3 of the walls was shiny white subway tile, and the straight-lined vanity cabinets below were painted a strong, glossy yellow. The navy blue wallpaper pattern looked smart against the white tile, and the color perfectly complimented the yellow cabinetry.

This wallpaper pattern is called “Otomi,” and is in the Emily Isabella line by Hygge & West. This wallpaper can be bought on-line.

The homeowner spotted this cool, woodsy pattern in a room pictured on HOUZZ.com. I didn’t realize you could buy from HOUZZ, but apparently you can, because that’s where she got it. I have hung this paper three times, in green & grey, blue & charcoal, and today in the white & grey.

Tree trunk patterns are very popular right now, with the Cole & Son’s “Woods” being one that many people like. (Do a Search here to see the rooms I’ve put it in.) I believe I prefer this one, though. It’s more natural looking, and doesn’t have the strong diagonal movement that I find distracting in the C & S version.

This pattern is called “Birch Trees,” and is by Designer Wallpaper, pattern # EH61008. I hung it on an accent wall in a master bedroom of a couple in the far west end of Oak Forest, in Houston. It was nice to work with, too, and will perform well for years to come.
