Sparkling Glitzy Damask Accent Wall for Teen Girl’s Bedroom

Combine glamour, tradition, and sparkle, and you get this large-scale damask pattern for an accent wall for this “girly girl’s” bedroom near West University Place in Houston.

If you are standing at the right spots, you can see the built-in sparkle and glimmer on the wallpaper.

This material was a non-woven, so I could use the paste-the-wall method (instead of hauling in my large and cumbersome work table). N-W’s have a high fiberglass content and are hard to tear. They are designed to strip off the wall easily and in one piece, when it’s time to redecorate.

Like many of the N-W’s, this one has a vinyl type surface, so will hold up to some dirt and washings, and resist some bops and dings, as well.

This particular N-W product did tend to crease very easily (see second-to-last photo), so it was important to handle it delicately.

Gold-on-Black Versace Swirl Damask in a Powder Room

So you thought Versace was all about clothing and shoes … Well, that name is all over wallpaper, too!

The owner of this brand-new home in the Garden Oaks neighborhood of Houston loves to entertain, and he wanted something in his powder room that would really rock the socks off his guests. As I like to say, you can get away with a lot of drama in a powder room – and he pulled it off!

This is a textured gold-and-black vinyl bonded to a non-woven backing. The material appears to have stitching (see close-up) – but that is just a design embossed into the thick vinyl.

What there IS that the homeowner was not expecting (bought from images viewed on-line, without seeing an actual sample) is a good bit of glitter.

There is just enough glimmer to reflect light and catch your eye, but not so much as to be overdone or gauche.

The pattern is subtle and the color is subdued, and makes a great backdrop for this pre-teen girl’s bedroom accent wall.

But look again in the right light, and you’ll see a lot of glitter and glimmer and shimmer in this wallpaper. Parts of the design are imbedded with glass beads, and they catch and reflect light, making the whole wall look rather exotic. Perfect for a gal this age!

Sleek, Upscale, French, Elegance, Shimmer – All This In One Tiny Room!

Please pardon the crummy pictures, due to poor lighting, a cheap camera, and why the heck did I move after I clicked the button?! Anyway, you get the idea.

This young family lives in a home in Bellaire (Houston) that is large and open and somewhat contemporary, yet has formal elements, like intricate moldings – plus a whole lot of WHITE. They wanted something to warm up the space, while being sleek and French-chic. This pattern is not by Candice Olson, but it could be – it has sass, glamor, glimmer, movement, and style, plus it coordinates nicely with the marble countertop in this under-the-stairs powder room. It added just the touch the homeowners were looking for.

This is a thick vinyl in a dark color on a white paper backing. I colored the edges of the paper with grey pastel chalk, but the third photo shows that you can still “kind of” see the seams. This is typical, and not a defect. Depending on where you’re standing and where the light is coming from, most of the seams are invisible. When the paper is good and dry, the seams will be even less noticeable.  And, really, it’s the kind of thing that I see, but homeowners don’t even know what I’m talking about.  🙂  The dark lines in the top photo are shadows from the lighting.

A wallpaper facelift is addictive … When I left, the homeowners were saying, “We’ll have you back soon, to do something with the living room!”
