Classic Look in Historic Home in the Woodland Heights

This large 2-story home was built way back in 1985 – a whole 12 years before the Woodland Heights (Houston) neighborhood in which it sits was platted and developed. It just underwent a major renovation, but retains most of its original details, such as floor plan, windows, moldings, flooring, pocket doors, and much more. There are several large, regal live oak trees on the property.

The homeowner chose this classic damask pattern with a weathered look for all four walls of the dining room. It perfectly suits the room.

It took me about two hours of measuring, plotting, engineering, hanging, removing, re-hanging, yada, to get the design to perfectly flank either side of the window. All that work was worth it, to have the design fall symmetrically. But the real show-stopper is the view of those oak trees through the window!

This wallpaper is by Designer Wallpapers, and is lovely to work with. The interior designer for the job is Stacie Cokinos of Cokinos Design. She is the go-to designer in the Heights for whole-house remodels and new builds.

Upward Movement Geometric in a Briarpark Entry Way

This beautifully updated 1971 Tudor-style ranch-style home in the Briarpark area of Houston was pretty much white and grey, from outside throughout the inside. The homeowner wanted some warmth and life, and some personality for the interior.

This scratchy black on white pattern does all of that. It is a combination of geometric, trellis, and medallion, and it has a strong vertical influence, too.

Notice how the design motif has been centered on the two walls pictured.

This wallpaper is from A Street Prints, by Brewster. It is a non-woven material and is intended to be a paste-the-wall installation. But I had better results by pasting-the-paper. Cheery, Colorful, Fun Butterflies in a Girls’ Shared Bathroom

Boy, oh boy – did this turn out pretty! Two young sisters share this bathroom, and they are all about pink and frilly. This lively butterfly pattern in cheerful colors is just perfect in their sink room.

Putting the same wallpaper in the adjoining tub room was considered, but decided against because it might look too busy. I agree. Possibly a more subdued pattern using the same colors would work in the tub room.

But it’s more likely that the homeowners will opt to paper some other rooms – once they saw how good this looks, they asked me to measure other baths as well as the dining room!

I hung this in a 1988 home in Tanglewood. The interior decorator is Liz Mann. (See more of her work by doing a Search here.) The pattern is called Seraphina, and is by Anna French, for Thibaut Designs. It is a non-woven material and a paste-the-wall product.
