125 lbs of Bored Helper

May 26, 2023
My helper for today. This has got to be the biggest Black Lab I’ve ever seen – easily way over 100 lbs.
For size comparison, that’s my foot, bottom center. And a 1-gallon bucket by his head.

And, yes – he eats sponges , paper towels , dropcloths , phone totes , and shoes .

Family Drop Off Point

September 27, 2022
I like hanging wallpaper in my stocking feet, so I leave this mat at the door to set my shoes on. It’s also handy for paste buckets and other things you don’t want to set directly on the client’s floor, until I get my dropcloths set up in the room where I’m working.
Today I walked in to see that the rest of the family finds this a handy resting spot for their shoes, too!

Dopey Place to Leave Shoes!

March 19, 2020

This week I’m working in a house in the Houston Heights that has been completely updated. The floors were just refinished and sealed, so workers are requested to not wear shoes in the home.

But don’t you think the workmen would set their shoes TO THE SIDE OF THE DOOR, instead of right where everyone needs to walk through?

I like to leave this scrap of sturdy vinyl wallpaper at the front door, to set my shoes on, and other equipment, to protect the homeowners’ floors.

Today I was working in a new-construction home. I turned around and found that the other workers in the home had followed suit, and that little patch of vinyl was covered with shoes and tools!

By the time I grabbed my camera, here’s what was there…

Textured, Copper Colored Paper on a Closet Ceiling

I don’t wallpaper many ceilings, but when I do, I prefer small areas that are not too high. Here is a closet in a home in Bellaire (Houston) that has been decked out to fit the needs (lots of handbags and shoes!) and taste (glam, glam glam!) of the homeowner.

The room boasts some fancy wall light sconces with large crystals, and this huge chandelier with the same mega-crystals. The only thing that could stand up to all this glitz and glamor is a very dynamic wallpaper!

So here you have the perfect foil (pun intended 🙂 ) – a deeply textured, copper / gold embossed vinyl wallpaper. Light bounces off the metallic surface and brightens the room. But shadows are caught by the deep texture of the material, and the perimiter of the ceiling holds shadowy secrets.

This wallpaper is a textured embossed vinyl on a non-woven substrate, and is by Clarke & Clarke, a British manufacturer. The interior designer for the project is Martha Holmes, of MPH Designs, in Houston. I have worked with Martha for nearly two decades, and really love her classic-yet-livable style, and find her upbeat personality a joy to work with.

I hate to admit it, but I was shopping in Wal-Mart yesterday. Saw these shoes, tried them on, and loved them. After wearing them at work today, I love them even more.

They are very light weight, easy to put on and take off, fit perfectly, and the backs don’t smash down when you slide your foot in. Oh, and only $9.98. I bought a pair in black and in white.
