No Vanity or Toilet Tank Makes for Easier Hanging

The husband removed the powder room’s vanity , and also the tank on the back of the toilet. This made it immensely easier for me to hang the wallpaper. The toughest part of today was trimming around those three pipes, which really wasn’t too hard at all.
Having a blank wall also means that the wallpaper can run all the way down to the floor, rather than having to be cut along the top of the vanity. This is really nice, because it eliminates the worry of water that splashes onto the wall or backsplash getting wicked up into the wallpaper – which can cause the seams to pull away from the wall.

Slipping Wallpaper Behind a Toilet

This toilet was less than an inch away from the wall, yet I was able to slip both the liner and the decorative papers behind it. This saved the homeowner the $$ expense of paying a plumber to come remove the tank, and then come back and replace it.
I could unbook the paper and slide it behind the tank without creasing or damaging the material. But it still needed to be smoothed against the wall. I work a yardstick back there and use it to press the paper gently against the wall. Sometimes it works better to wrap a damp cloth around the yardstick, because that puts more pressure – gentle pressure – on the paper and helps press it against uneven areas of the wall. I often use a shorter length of yardstick, which is handy because many toilets are recessed into areas that are narrower than 36″.

Toilet Too Close To Wall – Makes Wallpaper Install Difficult

No problem for anyone using the toidie. But for the person trying to hang wallpaper in this room, it creates a problem.

Normally, I can fish wallpaper behind a toilet tank. But in a case like this, I would have to cut around the tank, and try to push the cut edges of paper as tight to the tank as possible.

These cut edges are likely to be visible. And they are also potential problems for curling edges or peeling paper.

For this job, the designer said she will have someone remove the tank, and that will enable me to run the paper to the floor intact.

No Toilet? No Problem!

The night before I arrived to hang wallpaper in this powder room, the handy husband removed the toilet tank. This gave me a whole lot more room to work, and made it a whole lot easier to put the wallpaper on that wall. It also ensured that the paper stuck nice and tight to the wall (which can’t always be done if the installer can’t get his hand back behind a toilet tank).
